Tasting notes

Deep garnet with a developing rim. The nose shows blackcurrant, plum, violet, cedar, tobacco and a hint of truffle. The palate is layered and silky, with ripe, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity carrying dark fruit and spice to a long, savoury finish.

About this wine

Château Palmer is one of the great names of Margaux, a Third Growth in the 1855 Classification whose reputation regularly rivals the First Growths. Its vineyards lie on deep gravel terraces close to the Gironde estuary, and the estate is known for an unusually high share of Merlot alongside Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2006 blends Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in equal measure with a touch of Petit Verdot. Aged in French oak, it combines the fragrance typical of Margaux with the firm, ripe structure of a classic, cool-finishing vintage.

Now entering its drinking window after almost two decades, it is a collector's bottle that rewards decanting and a carefully chosen meal.
