Tasting notes

Deep ruby red with violet highlights. The nose is clean and fruited, plum, blackberry, black cherry and blueberry, with clove, black pepper, liquorice and dark chocolate behind. The palate combines power and softness, the tannins silky, and the finish is warm and persistent.

About this wine

Chiaramonte is Firriato's varietal Nero d'Avola, grown at the Dagala Borromeo estate in western Sicily. The vines sit on hills at around 230 metres with a southern exposure, on clay soils veined with red marl that hold moisture through the dry summer.

The grapes are picked by hand in the third week of September. After fermentation the wine spends six months in American oak barriques, a short passage that rounds the fruit and softens the tannins without adding obvious wood.
