Tasting notes

Deep ruby with a garnet rim. Black cherry, wild strawberry and rose give way to iron, forest floor and gentle oak spice. The palate is concentrated and tightly structured, with fine, chalky tannins and bright acidity. The finish is mineral, deep and strikingly long.

About this wine

Clos des Ducs is a walled vineyard that belongs entirely to the Marquis d'Angerville family, rising steeply behind the house in Volnay. Its thin soils and unusual east-facing exposure give a wine unlike any other in the village.

The domaine works biodynamically, destems the fruit, ferments with indigenous yeasts and ages the wine in barrel for around eighteen months before bottling without fining or filtration.

Clos des Ducs is the estate's flagship, firmer and more structured than its other Premiers Crus, and it asks for patience in the cellar.
