Tasting notes

Luminous ruby red. A sculpted nose of red cherry, pomegranate, rose petal, Mediterranean herbs and volcanic ash. The palate is dense yet bright, with fine-grained tannins, nervous acidity and a long, mineral finish that gains softness and depth with a few years in bottle.

About this wine

Tenuta delle Terre Nere is the estate of Marco de Grazia in Contrada Calderara, Randazzo, on the northern slope of Mount Etna. Moganazzi is a contrada in Castiglione di Sicilia on the same northern flank of the volcano, where the estate farms two hectares of alberello-trained vines of 70 to 90 years.

The vineyard sits at 700–750 metres above sea level on volcanic ash mixed with small stones. The 100% Nerello Mascalese ages for around 14 months in wood, mostly French oak barriques.

The wine combines a dense body with a luminous character, elegant and sculpted; with time its refined energy settles into a soft, nervous depth. 14.5% alcohol.
