Tasting notes

Ruby red with garnet hints. The nose offers very ripe fruit, lightly toasted wood, spice and balsamic notes. The palate is full-bodied and warm, with black cherry, plum, blackberry and blackcurrant, clove and cocoa, and a long, velvety finish.

About this wine

Fatalone is a historic estate of the Petrera family, founded in the early 19th century in Gioia del Colle, on the limestone slopes of the Murgia hills in Puglia. The vineyards are farmed with organic and biodynamic practices.

This Riserva is 100% Primitivo. It ferments spontaneously with native yeasts, macerating on the skins for 10 to 12 days with frequent pumping over, and goes through natural malolactic fermentation. It then ages 12 months in stainless steel, 12 months in Slavonian oak, where the cellar famously plays music to the barrels, and six months in bottle.

The 2020 is full-bodied and generous, with black cherry, plum and blackberry wrapped in clove and cocoa.
