Tasting notes

Ruby red. The nose shows blackcurrant, blackberry and cherry with tobacco, damp earth and liquorice. The palate is full and well structured, with soft, fine-grained tannins, lively Sangiovese acidity and a long, savoury finish with hints of spice.

About this wine

Fèlsina is a historic estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the southern corner of Chianti Classico, and has always been devoted to Sangiovese. "Fontalloro", first made in 1983, is a pure Sangiovese from the Poggio al Sole, Arcidosso and Casalino vineyards on the border with Chianti Colli Senesi.

Here two soils meet: stony limestone on one side and sandy marine deposits on the other, giving both structure and finesse. The wine ages 18–22 months in French barriques and a further 8–12 months in bottle before release.

The 2017 is offered in magnum, ideal for a long cellar life.
