Tasting notes

Bright garnet. The nose shows flint, nutmeg, bergamot, delicate flowers and rosehip. The palate is juicy, medium to full-bodied, with lively freshness, fine-grained tannins and a savoury finish of ripe plum.

About this wine

Pieve Santa Restituta is the Gaja family's estate in Montalcino, acquired in 1994 as their first step outside Piedmont. It takes its name from an ancient country church at the heart of the property, where wine has been made since the 12th century.

This Brunello is pure Sangiovese and brings together grapes from the Rennina and Sugarille vineyards, on limestone and clay soils, with fruit from Torrenieri in the north-east of the appellation.

The 2017, from a warm year, is a generous yet fresh Brunello that is already open and will continue to improve in bottle.
