Tasting notes

Brilliant ruby colour. An intense nose of spice and red fruit, especially strawberry, with garrigue hints. Silky, fine tannins frame the fresh fruit on the palate, leading to a harmonious, elegant finish.

About this wine

Château l'Hospitalet lies in the protected La Clape massif near Narbonne, a former island with limestone soils and one of the sunniest climates in France. Gérard Bertrand acquired the estate in 2002 and farms it biodynamically.

The Grand Vin is a blend of three Mediterranean varieties, Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre, hand-harvested and fermented separately, with part of the Syrah vinified as whole bunches. The wine then ages for 12 to 16 months in new 225-litre French oak barrels.

The result is a refined southern red that pairs Mediterranean sunshine with freshness and silky texture, the flagship of one of Languedoc's best-known names.
