Tasting notes

Deep garnet. The nose shows kirsch, blackberry, fig, garrigue herbs, leather and sweet spice. The palate is full-bodied and warm, with ripe, firm tannins, concentrated dark fruit and a long, spicy, liquorice-tinged finish.

About this wine

E. Guigal was founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal in Ampuis, at the foot of the Côte-Rôtie slopes, and has become the reference name of the Rhône Valley, working across both the northern and southern Rhône.

Gigondas lies beneath the jagged Dentelles de Montmirail in the southern Rhône and is known for powerful, long-lived reds. Guigal's version is led by Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvèdre adding colour, spice and structure, and is aged in oak. The 2018 is rich and warm, with ripe dark fruit and garrigue notes.
