Tasting notes

Ruby red. Aromas of red and black cherry, raspberry, violet and a subtle earthy note. The palate is round and juicy, with polished tannins, good depth and a fresh, persistent finish. Serve slightly below room temperature in a large glass, letting it breathe briefly to reveal its full aromatic range.

About this wine

Jean and Agnès Foillard took over the family estate in Villié-Morgon in 1980 and are now among the most respected names in Beaujolais. Together with Marcel Lapierre, Jean-Paul Thévenet and Guy Breton they formed the so-called "Gang of Four", inspired by Jules Chauvet's ideas on natural wine.

The vineyards are farmed organically, fermentation uses whole bunches through carbonic maceration, and sulphur is added sparingly, only before bottling. "Éponym" comes from the Les Charmes lieu-dit, where the soils resemble those of Corcelette but the roots reach closer to the bedrock. It ages 6-9 months in used oak.
