Tasting notes

Bright ruby red. The nose offers red rose, geranium, sweet spices and wild berries, with strawberry and sour cherry. On the palate the tannins are lively and the acidity fresh, giving a vibrant, mouth-watering wine with a clean, fruity finish. Best enjoyed in its youth.

About this wine

Freisa is an old native grape of Piedmont and a close relative of Nebbiolo. Giacomo Brezza & Figli grow it on a small west-facing vineyard in the commune of Barolo, farmed organically, and vinify it as a still, dry and well-structured red rather than the lightly fizzy style often found in the area.

Fermentation and ageing take place in stainless steel to keep the variety's vivid fruit and perfume intact. The wine is bottled young and is meant to be drunk within three or four years of the harvest.

It is a characterful, slightly rustic red that shows a less familiar side of the Langhe.
