Tasting notes

Medium-deep ruby with garnet edges. Ripe cherry and plum lead, followed by ginger, anise and a delicate toasted-oak note. The palate is dry and medium to full, rounded in texture, with elegant tannins and a long, gently spiced finish that stays fresh despite the ripeness.

About this wine

Primitivo di Manduria is the appellation at the heart of Puglia's reputation for red wine, and Produttori di Manduria is the cooperative most closely identified with it. Its members work vines of fifteen to twenty-five years, trained both as free-standing bush vines in the old alberello fashion and on modern trellising.

"Lirica" is picked by hand in the first ten days of September, fermented under controlled temperature with about a week of maceration, and then aged at least six months in large Slavonian oak casks — a vessel that rounds the wine without adding obvious wood flavour.

This is the half bottle, a sensible format for a red of this weight.
