Tasting notes

Deep violet-ruby. Blackberry, black olive and violet, with cracked pepper and a smoky, meaty edge. The palate is firm and savoury, with fresh acidity, fine-grained tannins and dark fruit held in check. The finish is peppery and dry.

About this wine

Moulin de Gassac is the everyday label of Mas de Daumas Gassac, sourcing from growers in the hills of the Hérault, where cool nights and poor soils slow ripening more than the Languedoc's reputation suggests.

This Syrah is destemmed and fermented in stainless steel with a moderate maceration, then held in tank rather than barrel so the variety's peppery character stays unmasked.

It is a direct, savoury take on southern Syrah, closer in spirit to the northern Rhône than to a jammy varietal red.
