Tasting notes

Deep ruby red. The nose is elegant and fruit-led, with redcurrant and marasca cherry followed by balsamic notes and tobacco. The palate is intense yet soft, with fine, elegant tannins, good freshness running through the middle and a long, persistent aftertaste.

About this wine

Schiopetto is a historic estate in Capriva del Friuli, where Mario Schiopetto bottled his first wines in 1965 and set modern Friulian winemaking in motion. Since 2014 the property has been run by the Rotolo family, who have kept the house style of precision and restraint.

Podere dei Blumeri takes its name from the estate of the same name, whose vineyard project began in 2000 after a detailed study of microclimate and soils; the first vintage was 2001. Merlot and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso are grown here on hillside plots, giving a red built on freshness and fine tannin rather than weight.
