How to serve it
Tasting notes
Intense cherry red with purple glints. The nose shows ripe black fruit, blackberry and plum with toasty oak and sweet spice. The palate is full and rich, with ripe, velvety tannins and warm, concentrated fruit, closing on a long, spicy finish.
About this wine
Tête de Bélier, the "ram's head", is the flagship red of Château Puech-Haut, an estate of just over 50 hectares in Saint-Drézéry, north-east of Montpellier. The vines grow at 50 to 150 metres on hillside soils covered with round stones, under a maritime-influenced climate.
The 2020 vintage blends 70% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 8% Mourvèdre and 2% Carignan, and is aged for 18 months in new oak barrels, which add structure and a refined toasty frame to the ripe southern fruit.
It is a powerful, generous Languedoc red with real depth and ageing potential, a bottle for special dinners or for laying down in the cellar.
