Tasting notes

Deep, dark ruby with violet highlights. The nose brings blackberry, plum and sour cherry, with liquorice, ginger, clove and a resinous juniper note. The palate is energetic and fresh, the tannins dense and firmly drawn, and bright acidity keeps the long finish from turning heavy.

About this wine

Ribeca is Firriato's project to bring back Perricone, an old Sicilian variety that had nearly disappeared from the island's vineyards. The fruit comes from the winery's own clonal selection, planted in the hills around Trapani on limestone-clay soils facing south-southwest.

The grapes are hand-picked into small crates to keep the bunches intact. After fermentation the wine spends around twelve months in French oak barriques, which give structure to a variety known for its firm tannin and dark, savoury fruit.
