Tasting notes

Deep ruby with violet glints. The nose opens on marasca cherry, wild berries and plum, with rhubarb, clove, liquorice and tobacco leaf. The palate is soft and full, with good structure and velvety tannins, closing on warm fruit and gentle spice.

About this wine

Santagostino Baglio Sorìa Rosso is Firriato's Mediterranean blend from the Baglio Sorìa estate in the province of Trapani, close to the western coast of Sicily. The vineyards lie on hills at around 200 metres, on calcareous clay and red marl soils that hold moisture even in the driest years.

Nero d'Avola and Syrah are blended and then aged for eight months in American oak barriques, a combination that marries ripe Sicilian fruit with warm spice and a firm, well-built frame.

Soft and full on the palate with velvety tannins, it is a generous red for the table and a faithful expression of western Sicily's sunny, sea-cooled climate.
