Tasting notes

Deep ruby red. An intense nose of blackberry, blueberry and a hint of liquorice. The palate is powerful and velvety, with concentrated dark fruit, soft rounded tannins and a warm, persistent finish that reflects the partial drying of the grapes.

About this wine

Venko is the red wine of Fantinel's Sant'Helena estate, made from the Venko vineyards near Gorizia, in the heart of Collio. The Fantinel family has made wine in Friuli since 1969, when it bought its first vineyards in Collio; today the winery is based in Tauriano di Spilimbergo and farms more than 300 hectares.

The blend is led by Merlot, with Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir. Part of the grapes is dried before fermentation for extra concentration and density, and the wine then ages for 24 months in French and Slavonian oak barrels.
