Tasting notes

Deep garnet with a dense core. The nose is opulent: dried cherry, fig, raisin and cocoa over sweet spice, leather and a balsamic lift. The palate is full and velvety, powerful in alcohol yet carried by fresh acidity and ripe, enveloping tannin. The long finish turns savoury, closing on bitter almond, dark chocolate and dried herbs.

About this wine

Tommaso Bussola took over his uncle's vines in the hills above Negrar in 1983 and built a reputation for Amarone of unusual richness and precision. The estate works small parcels in the Valpolicella Classico zone and dries its grapes in open lofts through the winter.

After three to four months of appassimento the shrivelled bunches are pressed and fermented slowly, then aged in oak for several years. The result is a dry red of extraordinary concentration, where sweet dried fruit is held in check by firm structure and a bitter almond twist.
