Tasting notes

Deep ruby red. Intense black fruit on the nose: blackcurrant, cassis and black cherry, with cedar and sweet spice from the oak. The palate is full-bodied, tight and silky at once, with fine velvety tannins, fresh acidity and a rich, lingering finish.

About this wine

Ilatraia is the flagship wine of Brancaia's estate in the Maremma, on the Tuscan coast. It takes its name from the hill where the estate's best Petit Verdot grows. Produced since 2002, it is built to age for up to 25 years.

The vineyards lie at 75 to 175 metres above sea level on sandy clay soils, warmed by the Mediterranean climate. The blend is based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. After fermentation the wine ages for 18 months in French barriques, half of them new, and then for at least twelve months in bottle before release.

It is a powerful, polished coastal Tuscan red in the Bordeaux-blend tradition.
