How to serve it
Tasting notes
Deep ruby with garnet reflections. An elegant, layered nose of wild cherry, raspberry, rose, tobacco leaf and balsamic herbs. The palate is finely structured and intense, with silky yet firm tannins, vibrant acidity and remarkable length, with a finish that unfolds slowly over spice and red fruit.
About this wine
Le Pergole Torte was the first wine made from 100% Sangiovese in the Radda in Chianti area; its first vintage was 1977. Montevertine produces it from historic vineyards planted between 1968 and 1999, with yields limited to 40 hectolitres per hectare.
Fermentation lasts about 25 days in cement vats. The wine then ages for around twelve months in Allier oak barriques, a further twelve months in large Slavonian oak casks and a few months in bottle. Each vintage's label is a portrait by the artist Alberto Manfredi.
Presented here in magnum, the estate's flagship gains the slower evolution that this great format allows.
