How to serve it
Tasting notes
Intense, deep and concentrated ruby red. The nose is layered, with blackcurrant and black cherry joined by balsamic and mint notes, bergamot, jasmine and a touch of sweet spice from the oak. The palate is full and structured, with dense, silky tannins, fresh acidity and a very long, elegant finish.
About this wine
Mormoreto is the flagship red of Castello Nipozzano, the Frescobaldi estate in the Chianti Rufina hills north-east of Florence. The vineyard of the same name lies at about 300 metres on sandy soils with a south-west exposure, and the grapes are hand-picked and sorted twice, in the vineyard and again in the cellar.
The blend brings together Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot with a small share of Sangiovese. After fermentation the wine ages for around two years in French oak barriques, followed by several months in bottle before release.
First produced in 1983, Mormoreto is one of the historic Tuscan blends, combining Bordeaux structure with the elegance and the balsamic, herbal character of the Nipozzano hills.
