Tasting notes

Dense ruby turning garnet at the rim. The nose is layered and warm: black cherry and prune over vanilla, sweet tobacco, cocoa and a floral trace from the Malvasia Nera. The palate is full and enveloping, tannins polished by cellar time, with good length and a savoury, faintly bitter close typical of Negroamaro.

About this wine

Salice Salentino is the best known of the Salento denominations, and its Riserva category is where the local grapes are given the time they need: longer ageing before release, and more ambition in the vineyard selection that feeds it.

"Selvarosa" is Cantine Due Palme's Riserva, built on Negroamaro with a share of Malvasia Nera. The pairing is traditional and purposeful — Negroamaro supplies colour, structure and the savoury bitter finish, Malvasia Nera softens the frame and adds a floral, almost sweet-spiced lift that the first grape lacks on its own.

The extra years in cellar pull the two together into something rounder and more layered than either would be alone.
