Tasting notes

Intense purple-red. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry and plum with notes of spice and cocoa. The palate is full and smooth, with velvety tannins, good freshness and a persistent fruity finish.

About this wine

Cantine Due Palme, the cooperative winery of Cellino San Marco in the Salento, has played a key role in reviving native Puglian grapes. Serre is a pure Susumaniello, a rare local variety that was close to disappearing before growers in the Brindisi area rediscovered it.

The name is said to come from the vine's generous yields when young, but on older vines it gives deeply coloured, concentrated wines. Serre shows the variety's dark fruit and smooth texture, a characterful red from the heel of Italy that rewards the curious drinker.
