Tasting notes

Ruby red with purple glints. Red rose and violet lead the nose, followed by cherry, morello, plum, blackberry and raspberry. The palate balances salinity against freshness and carries real body despite the wine's youth, with soft tannins and a clean, fruit-driven finish.

About this wine

Tenuta Sant'Antonio is a family estate in Valpolicella run by the Castagnedi brothers. Scaia is its modern range, grown on hillside vineyards north-east of Verona; the name is dialect for the stony fragments of the limestone soil beneath the vines.

This varietal Corvina is a young red aged only in stainless steel, a deliberate choice that keeps the grape's perfume and bite rather than wrapping it in oak. Bottled here in 1.5-litre magnum, a format that ages more slowly and suits a table with company around it.
