Tasting notes

Ruby red with purple glints. Red rose and violet open the nose, followed by cherry, morello, plum, blackberry, redcurrant and raspberry. The palate balances salinity against freshness and keeps real body despite the wine's youth, closing clean and fruit-driven with soft tannins.

About this wine

Tenuta Sant'Antonio is a family estate in Valpolicella run by the four Castagnedi brothers. Scaia is its modern range, drawn from hillside vineyards north-east of Verona, close to the Alps; the name is dialect for the stony fragments of the limestone soil.

This varietal Corvina is young and juicy, aged only in stainless steel so the fruit stays in the foreground. Corvina is the backbone grape of Valpolicella, and on its own, unoaked and served slightly cool, it shows a lighter, more perfumed side than the appellation's richer blends.
