Tasting notes

Deep garnet with a dense rim. The nose is rich and layered: dried cherry, plum in spirit, fig and cocoa, with sweet spice, tobacco and a balsamic lift. The palate is full and warm, the tannins broad and ripe, carrying an exceptionally long finish of dark fruit and bitter chocolate.

About this wine

Tenuta Sant'Antonio was founded in 1989 by the four Castagnedi brothers at San Zeno di Colognola ai Colli, on the eastern edge of the Valpolicella zone. Campo dei Gigli is their flagship Amarone, drawn from a single vineyard on basaltic volcanic soil at around 200 metres.

The grapes, led by Corvina and Corvinone with Rondinella and a touch of Oseleta, are dried on racks through the winter before a slow fermentation. The wine then ages for some three years in French oak, followed by a long rest in bottle before release.
