Tasting notes

Garnet-tinged ruby. Classic Nebbiolo aromas of rose, red cherry, liquorice, tar and dried herbs. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with firm, fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, savoury finish of sour cherry and spice. Drinks well now with aeration and will develop for well over a decade.

About this wine

Produttori del Barbaresco is the celebrated cooperative of the village of Barbaresco, founded in 1958 and still owned by its member growers. Its classic Barbaresco is a blend of Nebbiolo from vineyards across the appellation, on clay-limestone soils with veins of sand.

The wine ferments in stainless steel at 28 °C with 24 days on the skins and full malolactic fermentation, then ages in large 50-hectolitre oak casks before bottling in March, a traditional approach that lets the grape speak rather than the wood.

The 2020 is a pure, classic expression of Nebbiolo from the heart of the Langhe: fragrant, structured and capable of long ageing, yet already a pleasure at the table.
