Tasting notes

Garnet red with light reflections. An elegant nose of wild red berries, dried rose petals and blue flowers, with a touch of eucalyptus; with time camphor, leather and forest floor emerge. The palate is firm but refined, with fine-grained tannins, bright acidity and a long, savoury finish.

About this wine

The classic Barolo of Giacomo Brezza & Figli, a family estate making wine in the village of Barolo since 1885, is a blend of Nebbiolo from vineyards in Barolo, Monforte d'Alba and Novello. The vines are farmed organically and the grapes are harvested by hand.

Winemaking is deliberately traditional: fermentation with long maceration, then 24 months in large Slavonian oak casks of 1,500 to 3,000 litres, followed by a year in bottle. The big, old wood lets the pure character of the Lampia clone of Nebbiolo speak without any obvious oak.

It is a transparent, perfumed Barolo that drinks well young yet rewards patient cellaring.
