Tasting notes

Deep ruby red with purple highlights. The nose shows blackcurrant, black cherry, graphite and sweet spice, with notes of cedar and Mediterranean scrub. Full-bodied and structured on the palate, with dense, polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long, layered finish of dark fruit, tobacco and cocoa.

About this wine

The flagship wine of Caccia al Piano is a careful selection of the finest grapes from the San Biagio vineyard, the estate's most prized cru and one of the best-suited sites in the whole of Bolgheri. Sheltered by woodland, the vineyard offers ideal conditions for the two Cabernets: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Cabernet Franc.

The wine ages for twelve months in French barriques, half of them new, then for roughly another year in large casks and barriques before resting six months in bottle. The Ziliani family present it as their new top wine, combining character, structure and elegance.

A Bolgheri Superiore DOC built for the long term, yet already harmonious thanks to its extended ageing.
