Tasting notes

Deep ruby with a purple rim. Blackcurrant, plum and cedar on the nose, with graphite, tobacco and a trace of sweet spice from the oak. The palate is medium to full and firmly structured in the Pauillac manner, with fine-grained tannin and fresh acidity holding the dark fruit in place. The finish is long and dry, leaving cassis, pencil shavings and cold stone.

About this wine

Château Latour, a First Growth on the southern edge of Pauillac, bottles three wines: the Grand Vin, Les Forts de Latour and a third wine labelled simply Pauillac. It comes mainly from the estate's younger parcels and from lots not selected for the two senior wines.

The estate has farmed organically since 2015 and left the Bordeaux en primeur system in 2012, releasing its wines only when it judges them ready to drink. The Pauillac is Cabernet Sauvignon led with a significant share of Merlot, aged in a portion of new oak.

An accessible way into one of Bordeaux's great estates.
