Tasting notes

Deep ruby-purple. Aromas of blackberry, cassis and plum mingle with smoke, graphite, cocoa and toasted oak. The palate is full-bodied and plush, with ripe, polished tannins, a mineral, gravelly core and a long finish of dark fruit, tobacco and spice.

About this wine

Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux, founded in the 14th century by Bertrand de Goth, who later became Pope Clement V. Today it is a Grand Cru Classé de Graves in Pessac-Léognan, on the gravelly soils just south-west of the city of Bordeaux.

The 2012 red is built on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, harvested and sorted by hand and aged in French oak barrels. The result is a generous, polished Pessac-Léognan with the smoky, mineral signature of its appellation.

Now open and expressive, it is an ideal bottle for a special dinner.
