Tasting notes

Garnet with a mature rim. The nose shows black cherry, plum, raspberry, cedar, tobacco and a hint of truffle and graphite. The palate is full and supple, with refined, resolved tannins, lively freshness from the limestone and a long, spicy finish.

About this wine

Château Trotte Vieille is a Premier Grand Cru Classé B of Saint-Émilion, owned by the Castéja family. Its compact vineyard lies on the limestone plateau east of the town, and the estate is known for an unusually high proportion of Cabernet Franc, including a small parcel of ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines.

The 2005, from a legendary Bordeaux vintage, blends 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in French oak. Hot, dry conditions gave concentration, while the limestone soils keep the wine fresh and precise.
