Tasting notes

Medium-deep ruby. Dark cherry, plum and violet on the nose, with notes of iron, undergrowth and pepper. The palate is fuller and more muscular than most Volnay, with ripe tannins, firm acidity and a generous core of fruit. The finish is earthy and persistent.

About this wine

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville farms around 15 hectares in Volnay and neighbouring communes, all biodynamically, and has done more than most to define the modern idea of Volnay as the most graceful red in the Côte de Beaune.

Fremiets sits at the northern end of the village, on the boundary with Pommard, where the soils carry more clay and iron. The wine is destemmed, fermented with native yeasts and matured in barrel, with new oak used sparingly.

The result keeps Volnay's perfume but adds a firmer, darker frame borrowed from its neighbour.
