Tasting notes

Pale ruby, limpid in the glass. Closed at first, it unfolds gradually on wild strawberry, redcurrant and blackcurrant, with a touch of violet and sweet spice from the wood. Light to medium bodied, with fine-grained tannin, fresh acidity and a clean finish on sour cherry and crushed leaf.

About this wine

Ferro 13 is an Italian wine project set up by four friends who look for suitable vineyards across different regions of Italy and present each wine as a character in its own right.

Gentleman is the alter ego of the oenologist Marco Bernabei: a Pinot Nero from the hills around Pavia, in the Oltrepò Pavese, made in a deliberately Burgundian idiom. The grapes ferment in conical wooden vats, after which the wine spends around nine months on its fine lees.

The style is restrained rather than showy — a light-framed red that opens slowly in the glass and leans on red fruit and acidity instead of extract.
