Tasting notes

Deep, dense ruby red. The nose is intense and layered, with blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry, followed by cedar, graphite, sweet spice, cocoa and a balsamic note. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, with dense yet velvety tannins, fresh acidity and a long, powerful finish of dark fruit and spice.

About this wine

Giorgio Primo is the wine with which Tenuta La Massa expresses most fully its terroir in Panzano in Chianti, in the natural amphitheatre of the Conca d'Oro. The estate was acquired in 1992 by Giampaolo Motta, who has since made it one of the most distinctive names of the area.

The grapes for this wine come from selected parcels with clay-schist and marly limestone soils. The 2017 blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, aged for 18 months in French barriques, half of them new, and bottled in September 2019 in around 9,000 bottles.

Giorgio Primo is a Bordeaux-style Tuscan red of great concentration and polish, built for the cellar yet already seductive.
