Tasting notes

Deep garnet red. The nose opens on dried cherry, plum and violet with notes of leather, tobacco and forest floor from long ageing. The palate is full and savoury, with firm, polished tannins and lively Sangiovese acidity leading to a long, spicy finish. Serve slightly below room temperature in a large glass, letting it breathe briefly to reveal its full aromatic range.

About this wine

Isole e Olena is a Chianti Classico estate founded in 1956, when the Piedmontese Francesco De Marchi joined two neighbouring hamlets into a single property. His son Paolo took over in 1976, selected the finest Sangiovese vines and made the estate one of the leaders of the modern quality revival of Chianti Classico; since 2022 it has been run by the Descours family.

The estate gained the Chianti Classico denomination as early as 1967. Gran Selezione is the top tier of the appellation, reserved for wines made only from the estate's own grapes and aged longer than a classic Chianti Classico. This 2013 now shows the depth that comes with a decade in bottle.
