Tasting notes

Deep ruby with violet reflections. The nose offers blackberry, morello cherry and dark plum, with violet, cocoa and a cool note of bitter herbs. The palate is full and firm, with slightly austere tannin and clear acidity, closing on dark fruit and a characteristic bitter-almond twist.

About this wine

Cantina Tramin is the growers' cooperative of Termeno — Tramin in German — on the eastern side of the Adige valley in Alto Adige. Founded in 1898, it farms vineyards across the villages around Lake Caldaro and is best known internationally for Gewürztraminer, the variety that takes its name from the village.

Lagrein is one of Alto Adige's two indigenous reds, a late-ripening variety grown mainly on the warm gravel soils of the valley floor. It gives wine that is dark in colour and firm in structure, with the brisk acidity that altitude preserves.

Tramin's version is made in the straightforward house style: fermented on the skins, matured in large wood and bottled without heavy extraction.
