Tasting notes

Deep ruby red. The nose offers cherry, small black and red berries and an earthy, forest-floor note. The palate is fresh and tannic, with strong structure, intense fruit and a long, savoury finish. Firm, deep and built to age for several years in the cellar.

About this wine

Ser Lapo honours Ser Lapo Mazzei, the notary who signed the first known document to mention Chianti as a wine, dated 16 December 1398. It is the Chianti Classico Riserva of the Mazzei family of Castello di Fonterutoli.

Made from Sangiovese with a small share of Merlot, it combines the freshness and firm tannins of Chianti with the strong structure and depth expected from a Riserva.

Earthy and intense, with berry fruit and real character, it is a classic choice for Tuscan cuisine and slow-cooked meats.
