Tasting notes

Ruby red of good intensity. The nose is generous with red berries, cherry, sweet spices and a touch of vanilla. On the palate it is soft and rounded, with ripe tannins and the lively acidity typical of Sangiovese keeping it fresh, closing on a fruity, medium-length finish.

About this wine

Tenuta Il Poggione, the historic Franceschi family estate in Montalcino, makes this Toscana Rosso as an approachable companion to its famous Brunello. The blend brings together Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet from vineyards between 150 and 450 metres of altitude, all harvested by hand.

Fermentation lasts about fifteen days in temperature-controlled stainless steel with the submerged-cap method, and malolactic fermentation is also completed in steel, preserving the fruit and freshness of the grapes.

The outcome is a well-built yet easy Tuscan red with 13.5% alcohol, a wine for the whole meal rather than a single course.
