Tasting notes

Garnet with an orange rim. Lively freshness over a powerful but refined structure. Gentle red fruit gives way to aromatic herbs, liquorice and balsamic notes. The palate is elegant and savoury, with crisp tannin and a long, clean, mineral finish.

About this wine

The Biondi-Santi Riserva is made by tradition from the oldest vines at Tenuta Greppo in Montalcino, plants of more than twenty-five years, and it is released only in exceptional vintages — around forty times since 1888.

After three years in Slavonian oak casks the bottles rest in the estate's historic library, La Storica, until they are sold, which is why older Riservas can still be bought in original condition.

2012 combined a warm summer with a cool September, a pattern that gave ripe fruit while preserving the firm acidity on which the wine's longevity depends.
