Tasting notes

Bright cherry colour. A basket of fresh red fruit on the nose, raspberry and dark cherry. Fresh like a rosé on the palate, with the crisp structure of a light red and a savoury finish. Easy to drink, versatile and best enjoyed young and chilled.

About this wine

Château Penin is a family estate run by the Carteyron family in Génissac, Bordeaux, and its Clairet is the house's emblematic wine, a tribute to the historic Bordeaux style.

Clairet sits between rosé and light red: after a short maceration of 24-48 hours and gentle pressing, the juice ferments slowly for about 20 days at low temperature. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from clay-limestone and alluvial soils with white gravel, aged about four months on fine lees.

Fresh like a rosé with the crunch of a light red, it is a versatile wine for the table.
