Tasting notes

Pale ruby, almost translucent. The nose is fragrant and high-toned: wild strawberry, redcurrant, dried rose, blood orange and a savoury note of iron and undergrowth. The palate is light to medium-bodied, with crisp acidity, fine sandy tannins and no trace of heaviness. The finish is clean and persistent, tangy with red fruit and a stony bite.

About this wine

Trois Cépages is Domaine du Pélican's red blend of the three varieties of the Jura: Pinot Noir leads, joined by the local Trousseau and a small share of Poulsard. The vines grow on marl slopes around Arbois, farmed biodynamically.

Guillaume d'Angerville brought Burgundian habits to the Jura when he founded the estate in 2012, and they show here: gentle extraction, native-yeast fermentation and ageing in used barrels. The wine is deliberately light in colour and body, built on freshness and transparency rather than extraction, and is best served slightly cool.
