Tasting notes

Bright medium ruby. Red cherry, raspberry and violet open the nose, with a little earth and sweet spice behind. The palate is silky and finely drawn, with elegant tannins, fresh acidity and real persistence. The finish is floral, savoury and long.

About this wine

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville is one of the historic estates of Volnay, in the Côte de Beaune. The family has bottled its own wine since the early 1900s, when Sem d'Angerville became a leading voice against fraudulent Burgundy, and the domaine has worked biodynamically since the early 2000s.

Champans is a large, gently sloping Premier Cru on limestone-rich marl in the middle of the Volnay hillside. The Pinot Noir is destemmed, fermented with native yeasts and aged in barrel with a modest proportion of new oak, in a style that favours transparency over extraction.

It is Volnay at its most open and perfumed.
