Tasting notes

Deep garnet. The nose offers juicy red fruit, cherry and plum with fresh herbal notes of mint and thyme and hints of earth. The palate is full and concentrated, with rounded, silky tannins and a fresh, enveloping finish.

About this wine

Pieve Santa Restituta is the Gaja family's estate in Montalcino, acquired in 1994 and named after an ancient parish church whose foundations date back to the 4th century.

"Sugarille" comes from a single south-facing vineyard of 4.5 hectares on clay and limestone soils with galestro; its name appears in a survey of the parish lands drawn up in 1547. The Sangiovese ages 24 months in oak and a further 6 months in concrete.

The 2013 is a dense, concentrated single-vineyard Brunello with solid ageing potential, now opening up after more than a decade.
