Tasting notes

Bright yellow. The nose offers yellow orchard fruit, ripe apple and a quiet floral note, clean and unshowy as Pinot Bianco should be. The palate has a crisp mineral acidity running its length, good weight in the middle and a balanced, dry finish.

About this wine

Castelfeder is a South Tyrolean family winery founded in 1969 by Alfons Giovanett, with its cellar at Cortina and the winery at Egna. Vom Stein, meaning from the stone, is its Pinot Bianco, drawn from selected vineyards in the Bassa Atesina on stony dolomitic limestone.

That ground is what gives the wine its fine structure, elegance and freshness. The grapes are picked by hand and fermented in stainless steel, then held six months on the lees, a restrained approach that suits a variety which rewards precision rather than intervention.
