Tasting notes

Straw yellow. The nose offers yellow orchard fruit and almond, clean and unforced. The palate is intense, balanced and powerful, with a faint note of vanilla and a long finish. Acidity keeps the weight in check, so the wine stays precise rather than broad.

About this wine

Castelfeder is a South Tyrolean family winery founded in 1969 by Alfons Giovanett and run today across three generations. This Chardonnay comes from the single vineyard Vill Carnaid near Salorno, in the southernmost corner of South Tyrol, an alluvial fan sitting on dolomite rock.

The grapes are hand-picked, gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel, a choice that keeps the site rather than the cellar in the foreground. The result is a Chardonnay with the weight the vineyard gives it and none of the heavy oak that often accompanies the variety.
