Tasting notes

Garnet with orange glints at the rim. Ripe red cherry and wild berries lead, with mushroom, dried herbs and a salty liquorice-root note behind. The palate is fine-grained and lightly tightened, the tannins polished rather than soft, and the finish is long, dry and savoury in the Serralunga manner.

About this wine

Paolo Manzone and his wife Luisella run their family winery in the Meriame cru at Serralunga d'Alba, in a small amphitheatre between Baudana and Lazzarito. The vineyards are worked by hand and without chemical treatments, and the estate is part of The Green Experience sustainability programme.

This Barolo is made entirely from fruit grown within the commune of Serralunga, as it has been since the 1999 vintage, from vineyards at around 350 metres. Fermentation in stainless steel is followed by two years in wood: ninety per cent in large 15-hectolitre Slavonian oak casks and the rest in French tonneaux.
