Tasting notes

Ruby to violet. Notes of violet and dark berries with hints of spice and cedar. The palate is powerful and complex, with fine tannins, full body and a velvety finish. It opens up nicely with a little air and is best served in a generous glass, where its fruit and structure can fully unfold.

About this wine

The Pfitscher family has been making wine in South Tyrol since 1861. "Cortazo" is their Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The grapes come from the Brenntal vineyard in Cortaccia, at about 300 metres, one of the warmest spots in Alto Adige. After about fourteen days of fermentation with punching down, the wine ages for twelve months in small oak barrels.

It is a powerful and complex Riserva that shows how well these varieties ripen on South Tyrol's sunniest slopes.
